Bangladesh is one of those countries which
are the most prone to a variety of natural hazards ranging from floods
to cyclones and droughts. Following the devastating floods of 1988, the Government of
Bangladesh together with a consortium of donors led by the World Bank, prepared a Flood
Action Plan(FAP) incorporating 26 different components to combat the vagaries of floods in
Bangladesh. The FAP raised controversies from its very inception, particulary, regarding
its environmental aspects. These are dealt with in greater detail elsewhere in this
HomePage.
